As a blogger, I often decorate for holidays weeks or even months in advance. Before my blogger life, I decorated for Christmas right after Thanksgiving Day while the kids were still on break. However this year, I decorated for Christmas earlier than I ever have before, like ten days before Halloween. Now before you compare me to Hobby Lobby who puts out Christmas decorations in July, let me explain why.
First of all, companies and small businesses reach out to bloggers and social media influencers to share their products for the upcoming season. As more companies go online, so does marketing. Small businesses rely on us to share their products on our social media platforms and blogs. Time constraints like shipping and product availability hinder customers from getting what they, so it is important to not wait last minute to shop! I find the best selection is early in the season, because most stores do not reorder products that sell out quickly. I think most people are buying for the holidays in mid October and certainly by November to get first dibs on new products. To be honest, I currently have halloween, fall and Christmas decorations in different rooms in my house! Anyways, it’s a bloggers life, y’all!
This year, my dear friend Susie, owner of Curtis Creation reached out to me to style some of the items from her 2018 Christmas Collection. Susie is an amazing single mom of two kids who singlehandedly runs her online business and a booth in the Grapevine Antique Mall in Grapevine, Texas. Anytime that I can decorate for Christmas and help a friend, count me in! The items below are pieces that Susie hand picked for her first Christmas collection as the shop owner! Supporting small business is very important to me, because I see the late nights, hard work, and all the hats that individuals who own their own business have to do!
To decorate my front porch for Christmas, I draped faux greenery around my bench and placed two holiday pillows on the seat. The pillows are reversible, so I got a pair to show both sides. Then, I added a magnolia wreath on an old fence and strung a red pom pom garland over the top, tucking a wood word cut out into the wreath. Two vintage inspired red lanterns add a pop of color and height around the bench. Packages tied with red ribbon and sprigs of greenery make the entrance feel more welcoming and say ‘welcome home for the holidays!’
The Christmas tree is one of my favorite things to decorate for the holidays. For this farmhouse Christmas inspired version, I ran deer themed ribbon from the top of the tree, and draped strands of wooden beads across it. I tucked in red ‘merry’ word cutouts for a pop of color. I like to repurpose items so I used vintage wooden spindles as ornaments by drilling a small hole in the top of each and stringing with an ornament hook. A set of wooden holiday signs are tucked into the tree which contrast well with the flocked greenery. A chunky wool throw acts as a tree skirt and adds another texture to this space. I wanted this space to feel cozy, so adding wood elements adds a natural, warm feel to my Christmas decor.
A galvanized crate is filled with birch wood logs tied together to create a ladder which can be used as simple decoration or hung on the wall.
Gathering around the fireplace with family, drinking hot cocoa and playing boards games is a favorite past time during the winter months. Layering several banners between the stockings add an extra punch of color and pattern to my white mantle. I used 3m hooks to attach my grain sack stockings. These stockings have been on my wish list for 2 years. I finally found them online, here. Wooden letters that represent each family member’s name are tied with buffalo check ribbon onto the stockings. Personalizing your decor just makes your home feel more special. The red lanterns also look great around the fireplace and create a warm glow at night when lit with candles.
Research shows that decorating early for Christmas can make you happier! Believe it! The earlier you decorate, the more you can enjoy the holidays and traditions that make Christmas special to your family. I adore everything in the Curtis Creation Christmas Decor Collection, but here are a few of my favorite things! Y’all, this this white ceramic deer is so pretty and perfect for holiday vignettes. I styled it in a glass terrarium with mini trees and a galvanized metal house. It is so cute and my favorite Christmas decor from the collection!!
Another favorite find is this metal sign that reads ‘Christmas Trees.’ It is such a classic piece and this style has been really popular for the past 2-3 years. It looks great on the mantle, makes a statement on your tree, or hung on a holiday themed gallery wall. You can also layer it over a wreath or vintage crate to add depth to your wall decor. It is perfect for a traditional or farmhouse Christmas.
Last, my favorite thing is this set of Merry Christmas signs! They are small enough to be used as ornaments on your farmhouse Christmas tree, or to style in a holiday themed tray. You can use them together or individually. The metal and wood are perfect touches to a farmhouse inspired Christmas.
