Set a Colorful Easter Tablescape

I challenged myself to create two different styles of place settings for an easy tablescape for Easter using the same centerpiece.  Today, I am sharing how to set a colorful Easter tablescape with a few inexpensive finds. Similarly you can check out how to style a neutral Easter tablescape here.  Meanwhile,  let’s take a look at this kid friendly Easter tablescape and tips to set a colorful Easter tablescape.

Mix and Match Paper Goods for a Kid Friendly Tablescape!

Don’t be afraid to mix paper goods with your everyday dishes!  You can mix patterns by finding a commonality, mostly done in color or texture.  For example, I used linen napkins and bunny paper plates in the same green color.  In addition, place patterned paper plates between your white dishes.  It keeps the tablescape casual yet elegant, but allows you to add more color with inexpensive paper products.  Furthermore, adding a paper straw in a fun pattern or color instantly adds a pop of color to your table.  In addition, paper products make the table setting kid friendly and easy to clean up.

When working with pattern, it is important to vary the size of prints.  For instance, the Pottery Barn table runner features a large scene of brown bunnies in green grass, while the paper products show smaller images of a similar scene.  Pattern mixing works well when one pattern is a large print and the other is smaller.

Limit Seasonal Dishes!

By adding a few colorful, seasonal dishes to my white dishes, I can change the entire look of the tablescape.  I have a large collection of white dishes because of their versatility. However, when I find inexpensive seasonal items, I scoop them up.  My goal is to buy items that are seasonal but not necessarily geared toward only one holiday. For example, these dishes work for Easter, baby showers, or spring get togethers. Recently, I found these spring dishes (none scream just Easter) at Homegoods. The set of 3 floral animal bowls and a set of 4 bunny ramekins cost $10 each while the set of egg cups cost $5.

Find Happy Accidents!

Attention to detail makes all the difference.  It is truly the little things that will make your guests feel special and or tablescapes be memorable.  This is where I love to find ‘happy accidents’ by combining things that I already own in new ways. When I am styling a table, I may be inspired by one or two new finds of the season.

However, I shop my home a lot and look for items to repurpose or reuse from one season to the next. First, I get out my box of seasonal decor.  Second, I lay out everything that I may potentially use for a particular tablescape including a variety of chargers, cups and dessert plates.  Third, I search my craft room and decor closet for additional items to use.  For example, I found these polka dot straws left over from a birthday party.  I noticed the color and shapes mimicked the Easter egg nests that I had previously laid out… happy accident. While searching in my box of faux florals, I found some orange fall stems that I had previously picked up on clearance.  The shape of the leaves reminded me of the tops of carrot stems… another happy accident. It was a great way to bring more color into my tablescape.

Decorate Beyond the Table!

First of all, I adore garlands.  I think they are so cute, inexpensive and can be styled many ways. You can find seasonal and holiday garlands at Homegoods, Hobby Lobby and even the Target Dollar spot for $5-20 bucks in so many cute designs. Y’all, itty bitty carrots!!!  Some of my favorite ways to style garlands are in multiples hanging from a fireplace mantle, hutch or draped over a mirror.  Because they are lightweight, push pins work great to hold them in place.  In addition, they can be hung from the chandelier like I did above this tablescape.  Another easy way to use garlands is draped down the center of the table for another pop of color.  Either way, they create a fun, festive and kid friendly tablescape.
