The best way to wish friends and neighbors a cute Happy Halloween is to ‘boo’ them! If you have ever unexpectedly received a ‘Boo basket’ on your front door in October, then you know that ‘booing’ is a good thing. My teenage daughter loves to ring the door bell of neighbors. Then, sprint to hide in the bushes to watch their reactions of finding a basket of goodies at their door in October.
Specifically, ‘boo baskets’ are a fun neighborhood tradition where you place a basket of Halloween treats on the front door of friends or neighbors. Then, they continue the kindness by making and delivering ‘boo baskets’ to other houses in the area. To let others know that you have been ‘boo-ed,’ simply tape a printable sign on the door so that eventually, the whole neighborhood will receive a basket of cute happy Halloween treats.
If you work in an environment with separate office spaces, it is a great way to add some happy Halloween vibes in the workplace. As a former educator, it is a fun activity to do with fellow teachers at school, too.
My favorite place to shop for items are Target, Homegoods/Marshall’s and the grocery store.
If you get ‘boo-ed, enjoy the treats. But, leave a “we’ve been boo-ed” sign on your front door. For example, this free printable with instructions From: Susie is so cute. Then, make and deliver a few ‘boo baskets’ for friends or neighbors, too.
Budget Friendly Tip:
When gifting several boo baskets on a budget, buy items in multiple packs. For instance, kitchen towels or coffee syrups are usually sold in sets which can be separated to make multiple baskets. Lastly, buy inexpensive trick – or – treat bags, buckets and creepy cloth at the dollar store.

While you don’t need a specific theme, it directs you toward finding items for the basket. Therefore, here are 10 different themed ideas for Boo baskets. In addition to these ideas, always include a few sweet treats or baked goods!
This is such a cute happy Halloween tradition that my family has done for years. Consequently, it’s a great way to teach your kids that it is just as much fun to give as it is to receive. It’s basically trick or treating in reverse. And a nice way to play ‘ding, dong, ditch.’
