How to Style your Thanksgiving Tablescape with Simple Table Decor

Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and I can’t wait to eat all the pie!  But before I break out the stretchy pants, I want to share two simple thanksgiving tablescape ideas.  I originally shared these table decor ideas at The Findery in Waco, Texas during Silobration weekend.  My goal is to encourage you to use what you have, repurpose items into something new and have fun with the details in your tablescapes.  Sometimes, we overthink our home decor, but I am here to say that there are no rules that can’t be broken or trends that must be followed.  I like to set beautiful tables so that my family and my guests feel special!  More importantly, I want to share a good meal with my family and friends!

Start with the Basics when styling your Thanksgiving Tablescape!

I always recommend a good set of classic white dishes because they are so versatile.  Because, you can dress them up or keep them casual!  You can you can completely change the look of your Thanksgiving tablescape with the details in linens and place cards.  Another item that is good to have due to its versatility is galvanized chargers.  They work in with many different styles and seasons depending on the other elements that you add to the mix.

Choose a Theme for your Table Decor.

You don’t have to use traditional colors for a holiday or thanksgiving tablescape.  Just use what you love or what you have!  For this thanksgiving tablescape, I used the same basic components but varied some of the elements to change the style of the table.  On the left, I created a rustic farmhouse look by repeating the elements of galvanized metal and adding neutral colored buffalo check cloth napkins.  Actually, these may be tea towels!  I love the many designs of tea towels, so don’t be afraid to think outside the box with your decor.  Next, I added some softer linens in blue and green to match the centerpiece to create a casual elegant look on the other side.  Something as simple as a little pumpkin at each place setting can set the tone for a thanksgiving or fall table.

Use Lots of Layers to Build your Table Decor.

Layering creates a beautiful collected with many fun textures for fall. Think chunky woven elements like burlap, jute, or other natural materials.  However, you can contrast with some delicate textures like silk, linen, or scalloped edges on cloth napkins. Be aware of the materials that you are using and try to vary the textures between each layer. If you can’t alternate the texture, make sure you use a contrasting color like dark wood stain charger over a light wood tabletop.  If you missed my original blog post on these DIY flower filled pumpkins, check it out here.  They are so easy to make by drilling a hole into craft pumpkins and inserting a variety of your favorite florals into the foam. Certainly, they will provide a unique look to your fall tablescapes!

Make your Thanksgiving Tablescape Personal!

Add a personal touch to each place setting with a handmade place card.  For example, I like to repurpose items from gift tags to holiday ornaments into unique place cards, like I did below.   These mini chalkboards would be cute with guests’s names or the menu written in calligraphy with a chalk marker. All of these beautiful elements including these fun burlap silverware holders are from The Findery! Sprigs of fresh or faux greenery will always bring the table to life!  Depending on the holiday, you can add seasonal fruit, pumpkins or mini plants to each placesetting, as well.
