Summer time is for making memories, being adventurous, & spending time outdoors. It means sippin’ sweet lemonade or iced tea on a hot, sunny day while sitting on the back porch with friends. It’s great for chasing down the ice cream truck or fireflies at dusk. Right in the middle of summer, we celebrate July 4th, which is a perfect time for a backyard barbecue, seafood broil, or grilling burgers & hot dogs with family & friends. These are some of my favorite tips to style your July 4th tablescape.
Summer Tablescape Tips
This summer tablescape works beautifully on your outdoor patio or a picnic table at the lake! I have rounded up everything you will need to make your July 4th table fun, festive and kid friendly.
Galvanized Caddy! Caddies come in all shapes and sizes and are available everywhere from Sam’s Club or Amazon.com to home decor stores. These organizational crates make it easy to store dishes and utensils or carry indoor items outdoors.
Melamine Dishes! Melamine dishes are so much sturdier than paper plates, easy to care for and come in so many fun colors and patterns. Pier 1 has great melamine dishes in all sorts of fun colors which layer well for a place setting. You can find fun holiday melamine dishes from the grocery store, Hobby Lobby, Target, Walmart, or online.
Paper Napkins! Disposable and inexpensive y’all. You can buy paper napkins to match any holiday or theme and dress up your plain white dishes.
White Serving Dishes! So I have shared this tip before, but white dishes like trays, platters, and bowls work great from casual to fancy dinners depending on what they are paired with. This tray is actually individually stacked trays.
Mason Jars! Mason jars with lids work great so drinks do not spill. Some jars can even be personalized with chalk labels. Patterned straws or ribbon add to the festive look.
Gingham Tablecloth! There is nothing that represents a summer picnic better than a red and white gingham checkered tablecloth. Kid friendly fabrics like vinyl and oil cloth can easily be wiped down or plastic and paper can be disposed of after use.
Flags! Mini flags are the perfect patriotic touch to a tablescape. You can place them in pots of greenery or bouquets of blue and white hydrangeas, corral them in a mason jar, or place flags at each place setting for guests. They remind us of our freedoms and are so festive for the summer holidays.
Candles in Lanterns! Candles are great to keep the party well lit long after the sun goes down. Try citronella candles to keep the bugs away or flameless candles to prevent any injuries. Place candles in lanterns for a simple, yet functional centerpiece!
Holiday Inspired Desserts! If the hundreds of holiday themed desserts on Pinterest don’t inspire you to make your own, just pick up a few festive desserts at your grocery store or bakery. Colorful, holiday themed sprinkles can transform any dessert to a festive treat! Create a dessert bar for kids or place desserts on tiered trays in the center of the table for a fun and delicious display.
I hope my list has given you a few ideas to make your next summer get together more fun, more festive and more kid friendly. Enjoy more ideas and photos below to inspire your July 4th tablescape this summer. You can never use too many stars and stripes in your summer decor, especially July 4th tablescape. With Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day, red, white and blue are my favorite colors to use during summer parties.
If you are stumped for a centerpiece, you can’t go wrong with symmetry; just find two similar items to balance the table. Place a tall tray or bouquet in the center!
I just love anything mini; so cute, right?! These mini plates work for appetizers or desserts and are perfect for little hands!
Making each place setting special will make your guests feel welcome and look forward to your next summer cookout. It is all in the details, y’all!
