July 4th Dessert: Easy Rice Krispies Treats

These red, white and blue Rice Krispies treats are an easy, yet festive July 4th dessert.

For me, there is a happy medium between spending hours baking goodies from scratch and buying everything already pre-made.

It’s like I want cute, homemade looking desserts that match the theme of holidays and parties. Except, without all the work.  So, I like to make easy no bake desserts.

By changing the color of the straws, chocolate or sprinkles, you can make this easy rice krispies treat for any holiday or party! However, I made these for a festive July 4th dessert.

Or make them for little ones, just because. The paper straws won’t let little hands get sticky! I love these red white and blue straws from the Target Dollar Spot.

Easy Rice Krispies Treats Recipe

Heres what you need:

  • Rice Krispies treats – homemade or pre-made
  • White chocolate melts
  • Patterned paper straws
  • Assorted Sprinkles

You can make your own rice Krispies treats, or if you are in a hurry, buy them already pre-made!

First, cut the paper straws in half.   Next, insert the straw at least an inch into the Rice Krispies treat as shown.

Melt the chocolate in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds.  It usually melts in one minute. You can add food coloring if you want the icing to be colorful.  Place the rice crispy side down into the melted chocolate.  Cover all sides in chocolate about an inch or two up. Two chocolate squares covered 8 rice crispies.

While the chocolate is still melted, cover with sprinkles.  I usually pour the sprinkles over a paper plate, so I can fold the plate and pour the extra sprinkles back onto rice krispies.  Don’t forget to cover the bottom in sprinkles, so it won’t stick to the plate.

Allow the chocolate to harden. It usually takes less than 5 minutes.

July 4th Desserts and Decorations

Rice Krispies treats are one of my daughter’s favorite desserts to eat and make. She loved this spin for a July 4th dessert, because sprinkles always make it better!

Plus, I love recipes that my kids can do too, without making a big mess.
