I grew up in a small town outside Waco, Texas. However, Waco officially became my hometown while attending Baylor University over twenty six years ago. Yep, I was Waco, before Waco was cool. As a local, I love sharing bits of my hometown, specifically visits to the Silos and tours of Magnolia. Just a couple of hours away is one of my favorite places to visit each year, the Round Top Antique Show. It is a haven of handmade goods, art, vintage finds, antiques from all over the world and good ole junk.
As I transform our 1980’s Tudor style house into a home that we love, I share decorating ideas, design tips, and DIYs on my blog. I am always in the middle of a project like refinishing our family’s heirloom furniture, painting a room or hanging a new light fixture. Often, I mix new with old to create a cozy, timeless style – spaces that feel welcoming, layered and collected. Natural elements like raw wood, a cool yet neutral color palette and some kind of handmade piece fill each of our rooms. I hope you find some decorating ideas, design tips, or DIYs on my blog to try in your own home.
For me, creating is like therapy. It’s a way for me to slow down and reconnect- with my self, my home, my art and what matters most. Working with my hands feels grounding and restorative. It’s also a way for me to make something one of a kind to wear or to put in my home. Fabric, especially vintage, and wood, like old barn shiplap or found driftwood, are my favorite mediums to use. Just give me a hot glue gun, paint or scrap paper, and I can make anything cute.
Lastly, I enjoy celebrating each season. Christmas is my favorite time of year to decorate and craft. For instance, a decorated fireplace mantle, a detailed tablescape, and a themed vignette appear in my home for every season. This is where I love to display my handmade decor and create unique DIY’s.
