How to Style a Valentine’s Day Table

I HEART Valentine’s Day Tablescape

This Valentine tablescape is packed full of red and pink patterns, especially hearts. By using a few things you already own, and adding some festive Valentine’s Day decor, you can set a beautiful Valentine’s Day tablescape.
Most of my serving pieces are white or clear glass, but red is great to have for holiday decor. It is such a powerful color and goes with a majority of holidays including Christmas, Valentine’s and July 4th.

How to style a Valentine’s Day Table

First, choose a themed table runner to add color, pattern and a base design to your table. Second, layer a red placemat with a clear glass charger.  Then, add a fun patterned cloth napkin in between the white dinner plate and dessert plate. Don’t be afraid to mix paper products with your ceramic or glass dishes.

Next, create something special for each place setting. For example, place felt hearts, word cutouts ands a sweet treat for guests on each plate. I added a touch of greenery to break up all the red, too.  You can easily make these candy heart sticks by hot gluing felt roses and wrapped candy on a wooden skewer, available at the grocery store.  You can buy premade felt roses or make your own with sheets of felt from the craft store.

Then, add some fun details to each glass. For instance, with red and white twine, tie on an ornament to the rim of the glass.  You can find Valentine ornaments at craft stores like Hobby Lobby or Michaels.  Heart shaped straws are a fun, inexpensive way to dress up your everyday glasses, too.

I actually used these red checkered ribbons at Christmas. Yep, reuse your holiday decor!  The wired greenery is at Target, which is wrapped around a few times, and hot glued with a bow onto the top. Then, I attached it on the front of the chair with a dot of hot glue under the trim.
I love to use hearts for Valentine’s Day decor, and roses, too!   When I decorate for a holiday, I often shop the house for items that will work in my theme or color scheme.  You don’t have to spend a lot if you can be creative or resourceful.  The centerpiece is a simple DIY wired tree in a red and white bowl – another Christmas accessory.  Fill with glass beads and hang some valentine ornaments on each branch.
The buffet table holds extra serving pieces, drinks and candy for guests.  You can find the gum ball machines online or at Hobby Lobby.  I use plain kraft paper over some art work that I had previously framed.  With glue dots, I place an assortment of fun Valentine papers in red, pinks and white. Then, I hung a galvanized banner that spells out love to set the mood!
