Halloween is less than a week away, so let’s talk Halloween DIY decor! My challenge was to use things that I already had to style a Halloween mantle! With a few inexpensive decorations, random finds in my decor stash and a can of spray paint, I was inspired to decorate a haunted mansion theme on my fireplace.
Spraypaint is the equivalent of mascara for moms on the go! While looking for inspiration in my art room, I found paper birds that I had previously bought from the Little Shop on Bosque in Waco, Texas. These white paper birds were only $1, and were used in the Magnolia Market summer display. You could use some paper cutouts or cheap plastic bats from the dollar store for a similar effect. Therefore, I painted the paper birds with black spray paint.
Next, I found a tree branch in my yard and removed the leaves. Then, I spray painted it black, too. When the paint dried on the birds and the branch, I used black fishing line to hang the birds. Lastly, I attached the branch to the ceiling on a small light fixture.
OR you can… Spray paint tree branches black and place them in a vase for a simple centerpiece. Then, hang a $1 bag of spiders or bats from the dollar store on the branches. Search your neighborhood for natural elements that you can use to create your own Halloween DIY decor.
Decor doesn’t have to be expensive, especially for the holidays. A little creativity will allow you to make your own DIY Halloween Decor.
For example, I have collected these brass candlesticks at thrift stores over the past few years that I use for different holidays. Then, I placed smaller white pumpkins on top. These are cheap orange pumpkins that I spray painted white, too. Just remove the stems prior to painting.
The cat is a dollar store find from a few years ago! I just added some halloween themed ribbon as a collar to make him more festive.
In addition, I found some faux pumpkins in my decor stash that I did not use in my fall decor. So, I spray painted the faux pumpkins black. Coincidentally, I have painted these different colors to match my decor for the past three years. You could find some cheap pumpkins at the dollar store to paint, too.
Some of my fall decor, like white pumpkins and fall stems transitioned into my halloween decor! Real and faux florals and pumpkins look great together!
Next, I piled my collection of real, freshly painted and large faux pumpkins from my fall decor in front of the fireplace. Lastly, I pulled up my chair with a cozy throw blanket and a Halloween pillow.
